Before you send us e-mail, have you read the Frequently Asked Questions? Yours may be answered here.

How are the House League teams formed?
Teams in 2008/2009 are expected to be set according to OWHA age categories. We expect to have Tyke, Novice, Atom, Peewee, Bantam and a combined Midget /Intermediate division (up to age 20). A Senior Women’s Recreation division is available for players over 20 years of age.

Every effort is made to balance the teams, and players may be asked to change teams after the season starts in order to achieve fair and equitable team balance.

Each division has a convenor assigned to run the appropriate divisions. The convenor responsible will to make sure that all teams abide by the hockey association rules and will also communicate any league news to all coaching staff. Will have the ability to rebalance teams within the desired timeframe. All rebalancing will be reported to the VP of House League.

Convenors will also make sure that all games start on time, will assign team’s dressing rooms prior to all games and make sure all officials are present for scheduled games (ex. refs and timekeepers).

The VP of House League manages and oversees the convenors and league.

Assessments are done on each player at the beginning of the year by all coaches together, and then at the end of the season by each teams' coaches.

Teams are then picked based on total points and players are divided as evenly between all years as possible.

Coaches may protect only their daughter, plus an assistant coach and/or trainer’s daughter.

Once teams are picked, players may be traded in the first coaches meeting (30 minute time limit) to accommodate requests where possible and fair, however, all movements must be approved by the VP to ensure that teams remain rated equal. Reminding parents those teams are not set until rebalancing is done.

Within 3 games, teams should be rebalanced if necessary, trying to never moving highest or lowest rated players and to be done as soon as possible.

Coaches should be sure to welcome the newest members to a team immediately.

Can I request that my daughter play on a specific team or with a specific person?
We try to honour player requests, where possible and fair, but cannot guarantee them. We can't please everyone in every situation.

What qualifications do coaches and trainers need?
Coaches, coaching staff, managers & trainers must be certified and have current police checks (renewed every 2 years) at the start of the season. All staff regardless of bench or on ice help must have Speak-Out training. The maximum number of coaching staff allowed on the bench (including trainer) is 4. What if my daughter is injured during a game?
Trainers are the only bench staff allowed on the ice during a player injury unless signaled by the referee. Trainers' decisions regarding players returning to play in a game after injury cannot be overruled by anyone on the bench. If a player is removed from the ice in a major injury they must receive medical clearance stating that they are fit to return to the ice as well as have parental permission.
